PM5 troubleshooting
The monitor won't show up, drops mid-workout, or behaves oddly.
The scan can't find your monitor
Three things cover almost every case:
- Wake the PM5 — press any button. A sleeping monitor doesn't advertise.
- Get closer — within about 20 feet, fewer walls.
- Close other erg apps. A PM5 accepts one Bluetooth connection at a time. If ErgData (or another app) is connected, Ergon can't see it — Ergon will say so when this is the cause. Fully close the other app and rescan.
It disconnects mid-workout
Ergon retries on its own for 30 seconds; if it's not back within a few, a Reconnect banner appears on the live screen. Your data is safe either way — Ergon records strokes on the phone as they happen, so an interrupted workout saves with everything captured up to the drop.
For repeat offenders: keep the phone near the monitor, and on Android leave Ergon's recording notification alone — it's what keeps the connection alive in the background.
Ended a workout early?
Ending from Ergon saves the partial workout, and the PM5 logs its completed intervals too. Ending a Just Row from the PM5's own Menu is also fine — Ergon snapshots the final numbers and saves the piece. A workout you exit before taking a stroke isn't saved at all; there are no phantom 0m rows.
The monitor shows "connected" but nothing happens
Bluetooth state can go stale, especially after the app has been backgrounded a while. Tap the Bluetooth glyph → your monitor → reconnect; Ergon resets the stale link automatically. Failing that, put the PM5 to sleep (hold Menu) and wake it.
No force curve
Force-curve capture needs a PM5 with reasonably recent firmware — original PM5v1 units don't send it. Everything else records normally. Firmware updates run through Concept2's own Utility app.
Wrong machine type
Very old firmware can't report whether it's a RowErg, SkiErg, or BikeErg; Ergon assumes RowErg. Fix it in the Bluetooth panel → Manage monitors.
